Tura, August 22: Residents of several villages under the 8-Amongpara area of West Garo Hills have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to address prolonged problems of poor mobile network and internet connectivity.
The affected villages include Agindangre, Rongkugri, Sasatgre, Dura A’simgre, Rongsigre, Rongpinggre, Karijoragri, Nokwatgre, Dobagre, Durabanda, Kalupara and surrounding areas. According to residents, several areas continue to receive only 2G connectivity or no mobile signal, severely affecting access to essential services. Online classes, digital banking, Aadhaar-related services, digital payments and government portals are reportedly being disrupted because of the poor connectivity.
Residents have also raised concerns over emergency communication, particularly the difficulty of contacting ambulances and other emergency services when required. Students and young people are among those most affected, as education and other essential activities increasingly depend on reliable internet access. The issue has reportedly persisted for a considerable period despite repeated complaints. The grievances have also been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, seeking early intervention.
Jakrak A. Sangma, Official GNC MDC Candidate for the 8-Amongpara GHADC Constituency, has urged the administration to take up the matter with telecom operators and ensure immediate improvement in connectivity.
He called for BSNL, Jio and Airtel to install additional towers or boosters in the affected areas and sought a field inspection to assess the actual ground situation. Residents said reliable mobile and internet connectivity has become essential for education, healthcare, banking, emergency communication and access to government services. They appealed to the authorities and telecom companies to address the problem at the earliest.
