
Tura, June 26: The Tura Challenge 2nd Inter Mahari Basketball Tournament 2026 tipped off on Friday with an exciting opening match between A·gitok Mahari and Koksi Mahari. The tournament is being sponsored by Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya.
Koksi Mahari made an impressive start, dominating the first quarter with an early eight-point lead. Chesbirth spearheaded the scoring for Koksi as A·gitok Mahari struggled to find their rhythm during the opening period.

However, the momentum shifted in the second quarter as A·gitok Mahari settled into the game. Led by the outstanding performances of D. Nangkam and Levio, A·gitok displayed excellent teamwork and maintained control for the remainder of the contest. Levio was the star of the match, sinking seven three-pointers to guide his side to a comprehensive 71–40 victory over Koksi Mahari.
Speaking to the media, Walseng Ch. Sangma, President of the Krimkro Soci Cultural Club, Tura, said the tournament has been organised to strengthen unity among the different Maharis (clans) while promoting the sport of basketball. He added that the event also aims to encourage fitness, healthy living, and greater participation in sports among the youth.
