Tura, July 8: Alleging prolonged disruption of drinking water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Mansrang Ch. Marak, Executive Member of the Garo National Council (GNC) and former leader of an A’chik organization in South Garo Hills, has submitted a memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Officer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE), Rural Water Supply Sub-Division, Chokpot, seeking immediate restoration of water supply in five villages under Chokpot Block.
In the memorandum dated July 8, Marak stated that residents of Sangknigre, Tepotgre, Dankipara, Dumindigre, and Asimgre have not been receiving water under the Jal Jeevan Mission despite the completion of the project in their areas. According to the memorandum, although the infrastructure work under the JJM scheme was completed, inadequate supervision, maintenance, and regular inspection have allegedly resulted in damage to pipelines and water storage tanks, rendering the water supply system non-functional.
Marak said the prolonged disruption has caused serious inconvenience to the residents, who are struggling to access safe drinking water for their daily needs. He stressed that water is a basic necessity and urged the PHE authorities to take immediate corrective measures to restore the damaged infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted water supply to every household in the affected villages.
The memorandum further requested the department to issue necessary directions to the concerned officials and workers for the prompt repair and maintenance of the water supply system. Expressing confidence in the department’s intervention, Marak hoped that the grievances of the people of the five villages would be addressed at the earliest.
