Tura, Sept 19: East Garo Hills DEF emerged champions of the Meghalaya Police Western Range T20 Cricket Tournament 2026, defeating 2nd MLP Battalion, Goeragre, by 26 runs in the final at Allotgre Cricket Ground on Saturday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, East Garo Hills DEF posted 139 for five in 20 overs. The 2nd MLP Battalion side could manage 113 for five in its allotted 20 overs.
The tournament, organised by the office of the DIG, Western Range, commenced on September 14 with eight teams representing different police formations from across the region.
DIG, Western Range, J.F.K. Marak, IPS, congratulated the champions and commended all participating teams, stating that the tournament provided valuable competitive experience while promoting teamwork and discipline among police personnel.
SP (Traffic), Tura, Rupam R. Marak, said the tournament was also part of preparations for the Police Duty Meet scheduled to be held in Hyderabad in December. He said the competition would help identify talented cricketers and potential leaders who could represent the Western Range at higher-level competitions.
The final was witnessed by senior police officials, including SP East Garo Hills Abraham T. Sangma, besides officers and personnel from across the Western Range.
