Tura, Sept 12: An Inter-School and College Music Competition under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) was held at the District Auditorium, Tura, on Saturday to promote awareness against drug abuse among young people through music.
Organised in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Officer, West Garo Hills, the event carried the message “Music Unites, Drugs Divide”, encouraging youth to channel their energy and talents into positive activities.
Eight school and college bands participated in the competition, showcasing their musical talents while spreading awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Tura Government College emerged as the winner, followed by Tura Christian College in second place and Tura Public School in third.
Individual awards went to Amelia S. Sangma of Sherwood School (Best Vocalist), Raskant Ch. Marak of Tura Christian College (Best Bassist), Wening Ch. Marak of Tura Government College (Best Drummer), Nik R. Sangma of Tura Government College (Best Guitarist) and Ayon D. Arengh of Tura Public School (Best Keyboardist).
Shri Graham Bell A. Sangma, Member of the District Council, attended the programme as Chief Guest and took part in the prize distribution.
The programme highlighted the importance of engaging young people in constructive activities and strengthening collective efforts towards building a drug-free youth community and healthier society.
