Four-year staff shortage allegedly disrupting Classes and academic activities
Tura, September 11, 2026: The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) and A·chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) have called upon the Meghalaya Government to urgently fill vacant teaching and instructional posts at Survey School, Tura, alleging that a prolonged shortage of staff has been affecting the institution’s academic functioning.
In a representation submitted to Shri Lakmen Rymbui, Minister in-charge of Land and Revenue, Government of Meghalaya, through the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills District, the two organisations said several key posts at the school have remained vacant for nearly four years.
The representation was signed by Nickcheng Ch. Marak, Finance Secretary, GSMC, H.Q. Tura, and Danseng M. Marak, Additional General Secretary, ACHIK (North Western) Zone.
The organisations said the continued shortage of teaching personnel has adversely affected the regular conduct of classes and other academic activities, with students being the primary sufferers. They stressed that adequate staffing is essential for maintaining regular academic programmes, effective classroom instruction and quality education.
According to the representation, the posts requiring urgent attention include:
Head Master – 1 post
First Master – 1 post
Second Master – 1 post – promotion pending
Instructors – 2 posts
GSMC and ACHIK urged the concerned authorities to expedite the recruitment, appointment and promotion process against the vacant positions without further delay.
They maintained that filling the posts would help restore the regular functioning of Survey School, improve academic administration and ensure that students receive proper classroom instruction, guidance and educational support.
The two organisations further appealed to the government to treat the matter as a priority in the larger interest of students and the education sector. They said immediate action would help the institution function more effectively and continue to serve students and the people of the region.
The organisations expressed hope that the concerned department would take necessary action at the earliest to address the long-pending staffing issue at Survey School, Tura.
