Tura, 10 Sept 2026: Students of Tura Government College (TGC), from both the Morning and Day Shifts, have sought the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, over a range of continuing academic issues affecting the institution.
The students submitted a representation to the DC, citing shortage of teaching staff, irregular classes, disruption of the academic schedule and the reported prolonged non-payment of teachers’ salaries.
The representation was submitted by Twinky Ch. Marak, a Fifth Semester student of the Morning Shift, on behalf of the concerned students. They said the issues had already been raised with the college administration, while student bodies including PGSU-NEHU, GSU NEHU Cell and GSU Tura Government College Cell had also submitted grievances to the Principal.
However, the students expressed concern over the pace of administrative action, stating that the unresolved issues were adversely affecting their studies and academic activities.
They appealed to the DC to forward their representation to the higher authorities of the State Education Department. The DC assured the students that the matter would be communicated to the concerned authorities, including the Education Commissioner. The students were supported by Ampte B. Marak, former President of TGSU and GSU Tura Government College Cell.
The students maintained that their appeal was not aimed at targeting any individual, but at safeguarding their academic rights and ensuring the normal functioning of the college. They urged the authorities to take urgent steps to address the shortage of teachers, ensure regular classes, resolve salary-related issues and restore a stable academic environment at Tura Government College.
