Tura, July 4: The A·chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) has submitted a formal representation to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, urging the state government to investigate a series of Facebook videos that the organisation alleges contain explicit content and could have adverse social implications.
The complaint, dated July 3 and signed by ASPF General Secretary Adv. Bernita R Marak, was addressed to the Chief Minister at Dispur. In the representation, the organisation alleged that a Facebook user identified as Abul Kalam, reportedly residing in Guwahati, has been uploading objectionable videos featuring an unidentified tribal woman.
According to ASPF, one of the videos purportedly shows the woman reciting verses from the Quran while claiming to have embraced Islam. The organisation alleged that such content, along with other videos shared through the account, is offensive, culturally sensitive in nature and may negatively influence the younger generation.
The organisation further claimed that the videos contain explicit and suggestive material which, in its view, violates accepted community standards and public morality. ASPF also expressed concern over what it described as the promotion of “Love Jihad” through the online content and urged the authorities to examine the matter under the relevant provisions of law.
In its representation, ASPF requested the Chief Minister to direct the appropriate law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and to initiate legal proceedings if any violations of law are found. The organisation maintained that timely intervention is necessary to safeguard public interest and uphold cultural and social values.
The representation included links to several Facebook videos as supporting material. Copies of the complaint were also forwarded to the Director General of Police (DGP), Assam, as well as to the media. As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Assam Government or the individual named in the complaint. The allegations contained in the representation have not been independently verified, and any determination of wrongdoing will depend on the findings of the competent authorities.
