Tura, July 1: The A·chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) has submitted a formal complaint to the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills, seeking the registration of an FIR over alleged irregularities in the recently executed road repair and blacktopping work on the Rajabala–Balachanda–Haldibari–Selsella road stretch.
The complaint, filed by ASPF Chief Organising Secretary Raksim R. Marak, alleges that the contractor responsible for the project and certain officials of the PWD (Roads) failed to ensure quality execution of the work, resulting in the road surface deteriorating shortly after completion.
According to the complaint, the bituminous layer has reportedly begun peeling off under normal vehicular movement, exposing the underlying surface and creating hazardous conditions for motorists. The organisation alleged that the road work was carried out using substandard materials and not in accordance with prescribed engineering standards.
ASPF further claimed that the poor condition of the road has caused inconvenience to commuters, increased the risk of accidents, and raised concerns over the utilisation of public funds allocated for the project.
In its representation, the organisation requested the police to initiate legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and to obtain official records from the concerned PWD (Roads) Division to identify the contractor and officials responsible for executing and supervising the project.
The complaint also urged the authorities to examine tender documents, work orders, quality control reports, measurement books, bills, and completion certificates as part of the investigation. ASPF enclosed photographs and other digital evidence purportedly showing the deteriorated condition of the recently repaired road.
