ACHIK raises alarm over frequent power cuts in Garobadha, demands immediate action from MeECL

Garobadha, October 14, 2026: The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK), Krima Council, has lodged a formal complaint with the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), expressing serious concern over frequent power cuts and irregular electricity supply in Garobadha and adjoining areas of South West Garo Hills district.
In a representation addressed to the Assistant Executive Engineer, MeECL, Garobadha Sub-Division (Power Distribution), ACHIK called for immediate intervention to address the persistent electricity problems affecting local residents and consumers.

The organisation stated that frequent and unannounced power interruptions have caused considerable inconvenience to the public, disrupting daily household activities, students’ education, business establishments, offices and healthcare services.
ACHIK also highlighted concerns over unexpected voltage fluctuations and prolonged power outages, warning that these problems not only create hardships for consumers but may also damage electrical appliances. Despite the continuing difficulties faced by residents, the organisation noted that irregular and unstable electricity supply remains a persistent problem, affecting normal life and hindering educational and economic activities, as well as the smooth functioning of essential services.
In its representation, ACHIK urged the concerned authorities to take immediate corrective measures to ensure a stable, regular and reliable electricity supply to Garobadha and its adjoining areas.
The organisation further called for proper inspection, maintenance and monitoring of transformers, distribution lines and other electrical infrastructure to identify and resolve the underlying causes of frequent power disruptions.
ACHIK emphasised that reliable electricity is essential for public welfare and development, urging MeECL to treat the matter seriously and initiate prompt and appropriate action in the larger interest of consumers and the general public.
The representation was signed by Didimus A. Marak, General Secretary (Administration), and Archi S. Sangma, Vice President, on behalf of ACHIK’s Krima Council.
Copies of the representation have also been forwarded to Meghalaya Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh, the Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, the Chief Engineer (Distribution), Western Zone, Tura, the Superintending Engineer, Tura Distribution Circle, and the Executive Engineer, South West Garo Hills Distribution Division, seeking their attention and necessary action.
ACHIK expressed hope that the concerned authorities would respond promptly to the public grievance and take concrete steps to resolve the electricity supply problems affecting Garobadha and neighbouring areas.
