Tura, July 01: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls commenced across West Garo Hills on Tuesday, with election authorities initiating a comprehensive voter verification exercise to ensure an accurate and updated electoral roll ahead of future elections.
Official data available till 3:52 PM on the opening day showed that West Garo Hills has a total of 3,96,914 registered electors, comprising 1,97,886 male voters, 1,99,027 female voters, and one third-gender elector. Female voters outnumber male voters by 1,141. A total of 4,513 Enumeration Forms (EFs) were distributed on the first day of the exercise, while 147 forms were digitized, indicating steady progress in the initial phase.
Among the district’s eleven Assembly constituencies, Rangsakona (ST) recorded the highest electorate with 40,914 voters, followed by Dadenggre (ST) with 39,880 and Selsella (ST) with 39,293. Dalu (ST) has the smallest electorate with 23,305 voters. Phulbari (GEN) registered the highest distribution of Enumeration Forms with 1,147, followed by Rajabala (GEN) with 986 and Raksamgre (ST) with 792. In terms of digitization, Dadenggre (ST) led with 66 forms, followed by North Tura (ST) with 33 and Rangsakona (ST) with 19.
The Special Intensive Revision is aimed at maintaining an error-free electoral roll by verifying voter details, removing duplicate or ineligible entries, and facilitating the enrolment of eligible voters. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are conducting door-to-door visits to distribute and collect Enumeration Forms, verify voter information, and assist electors with necessary corrections.
The revision exercise will continue across the district in the coming days as election officials work to ensure that every eligible voter is accurately reflected in the electoral rolls.
